Causes of lower back pain

There are multiple causes of back pain, some of they are very common. Injuries from contact sports, accidents, and falls can cause issues ranging from minor muscle strains, to herniated discs, to fractures that can lead to severe damage to the spinal column or cord. Bad habits can also cause back pain, such as:

                1. * Poor posture
                2. * Overexertion at work or while playing
                3. * Poor sitting technique at the desk or at the steering wheel
                4. * Pushing, pulling, and lifting heavy objects with improper techniques

In most cases, back problems develop over time. One of the more common types of back pain comes from straining the bands of muscles surrounding the spine. Although strains can occur anywhere along the spine, they happen most often in the area of the lower back. The next most frequent place is at the bottom of the neck. In certain cases, there is no clear cause for back pain, this may be associated with  weakened muscles that can't handle daily walking, bending, and stretching. In other cases, back pain may originate from an injury involving pushing, lifting, pulling or twisting or some overuse or repetitive damage.

Pregnancy can also lead to back pain. Changes in hormones and weight gain cause stress on a pregnant woman's spine. Pelvic changes and alterations in weight loading occur. Back pain almost always resolve postpartum.
